This study investigated the effects of common starch ingredients found in commercial dog foods on the gastric emptying rate in dogs. Dogs received each test diet once (4 total) and a glucose control twice in a randomized order, along with acetaminophen. Blood samples were taken once prior to meal consumption and at multiple time points after to determine acetaminophen concentrations. A mathematical model was used to estimate the rate of gastric emptying using postprandial acetaminophen concentrations.
